- general clinical examination with auscultation of the heart and lungs
- ultrasound of the heart with Color Doppler
- blood pressure measurement
- if necessary, X-rays and blood tests

- in pets in which an abnormality of cardiac tone or rhythm was observed by general clinical examination
- in all dogs and cats after 7 years of age
- in older pets on long-term corticosteroid therapy
- in pets with endocrinological diseases
- in older pets scheduled for general anaesthesia
- in all breeding dogs and cats before breeding age
